TTN is not your average social network and accepts different content types that are seen by different members for certain periods of time.
In the standard social platform like Facebook and Twitter, posts are visible in the timelines of the person who posted it and of their friends/followers . A person has to scroll further down the timeline to reach older posts which means that old posts are seen less over time as fewer people are willing to scroll very far to read posts.
On TTN we additionally have separate areas for Articles, Forums, Events, Marketplace and Jobs. These are searchable archives which do not cause posts to get "lost" over time.
This diagram summarizes the different content types and the exposure each receives. 
Articles - These posts are best when you have a view of a subject and want to share your thoughts. Comments are accepted, but this isn't really an interactive function when you want a discussion.
Visibility: for ever

Forums - Do you have a question or an idea that you want to discuss in the community? The Forum is the best suited for such discussions as it allows for interaction between members.

Events - If you want to notify the community of any events that you know of, social or Bible study, then Events are suited for this as it has a start and end date.
Visibility: as long as the event is still in the future

Marketplace - Do you have anything for sale; whether it be a product or a service? Publish it in the Marketplace and other members will contact you via chat to arrange the purchase and delivery. This is directly between the buyer and the seller.

Jobs - These jobs are setup by going to a Page that you have created for a subject and creating a job under that Page. These could be once-off jobs or permanent roles.

Advertisement - Advertisements are not restricted to TTN content only and can be used to either promote a page within TTN or to get members to visit your external web site; whether it is social, business or Torah oriented. (My view is that we should be supporting our brothers and sisters in their endeavours, whatever it may be.)

Reach: a subset of members according to your chosen settings
If you have upgraded your account then you have the option of Boosting a Post or a Page.
A Post or Page that gets Boosted is shown on all members' home screens. This significantly increases the visibility of your content as everyone gets to see it rather than only the people that you have friended on TTN. If you are running a Poll for example then it could mean a tenfold increase in participation.
