The Counting of the Omer is intended to remind us of the link between Passover (which commemorates the exodus and the resurrection) and Shavuot (which commemorates the formal giving of the Torah at Mt. Sinai and the giving of the Holy Spirit).

What creative ways do you and your family count the oner?

Does the counting not begin with First Fruits? I'm confused as to how it could be Day 9.

Shalom Heather, many Torah believers have created their own calendars thinking that they know better. It's simple, Pentecostal /Shavuot has been celebrated by mainstream Judaism way before Yeshua came, after His resurrection, the 40 days and nights He spent on earth was also part of counting the Omer, so when He went up there were 10 more days left for Holy Spirit to come 7x7=49+1=50 which is Yovel/Jubilee a sign of freedom. So the Holy Spirit fell on the 50 day when Jews celebrate the receiving of the Torah on Mount Sinai, we receive the Spirit who gives us the potential to do mighty works. The calendar with today's Jews is an ancient calendar used by Yeshua himself and Shalom.
