Anyone here done, foster care, social work or family preservation ministry? A lot of these organizations have become more hostile toward those who obey the scriptures and i would like to talk to others about their experiences.

I was a foster parent in Texas from '95 to '98. I'm sure things have changed since then, and policies vary from state to state. But they were very supportive of faith based families when I "served".

I was a foster parent to my youngest cousin (through the system) back in 2008-2009 and there were definitely lots of obstacles. Honestly, it was VERY frustrating because I was expected to care for her and yet my hands were tied as far as raising her the way I thought was best. I HAD TO follow the state's rules. A few examples of the frustrations:
-No homeschooling allowed [thankfully she was still young enough that she was not required to attend public school, however she would have had to start public school in a year if I would have kept fostering her].
-MANDATORY weekly visits to a liberal psychologist that fed her little brain full of C.R.A.P. ... including the 'entitlement' mentality.
-Of course no spanking ... not that spanking was my only method of discipline for my children, but it was definitely a "tool in my toolbox", and I could not use that "tool" with her when I thought it appropriate / called for.
-MANDATORY weekly visits with her mom ... her mom would work against everything I was trying to do, and there was always a rough few days after visits with her mom. This was very difficult on all of us.
I'm sure there are a lot more examples, but that's what came to my mind on a whim. We all loved her dearly, but the whole thing was just so futile and sad. I'm not sure I personally could do that all over again. Well I WOULD if I believed it was something Yah was asking me to do!!!! But I personally would not seek it out. There's a great need for it, and I think it would be an amazing ministry for the right couple, but I was a single mom and it was just too much all things considered.
