If you can't make common sense differentiations between metaphorical and literal statements in the Bible, you're going to have a very hard time understanding it.

Some Biblical metaphors are hard. Most aren't.

For example, Jesus isn't literally a four-legged animal, either with wool or a mane. He isn't literally a day of the week. This should be obvious, but some people still have trouble with things like "Christ our Passover".
