Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all has taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

This statement was not intended as another sign for determining the end of the age and the beginning of the Kingdom, but as a reassurance that God will preserve a remnant of Israel through all tribulations because he promised that he would. If Yeshua's word can pass away, so can the generation (the line of Jacob) of Israel.
