In this walk I have run into a lot of people that try and speak "Heblish" (English mixed with Hebrew). I made this a Righteousness comic, not because I believe they think they are being more righteous by doing it (although I can see some may think that), but because of outside perception. In other words, other people thinking they are doing it to "show off" their righteousness. I know people from my church days that would do similar. While it wasn't always Hebrew words, it would be throwing in churchy type words into every sentence possible.
In the verses I added above talks about the importance of our words being in a language that whoever we are talking to can understand. That using languages the listener doesn't know, your words go unheard as they don't know what is said. The verse in Genesis is that from the Tower of Babel, where God confused the languages for the purpose of splitting the people up.
I understand the excitement of learning words in a new language and the want to use them. I've learned a lot on language myself, but I know those around me haven't. I know there are Hebrew words that carry a deeper meaning than our English, like shema doesn't just mean listen, but listen and obey. However, the people I run into don't use words that have multiple meanings. Just like our person in the comic they will use things like mischpachah which literally just means family.
Proverbs 16:21 NIV The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction.
