The high priest in Acts 5 carefully avoided mentioning the Apostles' escape from jail. If it was a miracle, he didn't want to know. If it was a plot by the guards, he must have been terrified of a general mutiny. Everyone but the Apostles was afraid. The priests were afraid of the guards, who were afraid of the people, who were afraid of the Apostles.
