The Journey of the deliverance of the Hebrews from their enslavement from Pharaoh is commonly remembered as the Exodus. But the book of Exodus is not so much a story of a 40year journey of a nation travelling toward their promised land, but about the joining together of a people group called by the name of their God.

The Exodus journey is also about the uniting and building of a people becoming a cohesive community.

The skills of our ancestors helped them in fulfilling many tasks, but what they knew did not necessarily guarantee positive outcomes. This caravan camped more than forty times in the wilderness and by the end of the journey, the scriptures tell us that most of the people that started the journey did not survive. They did not survive because in their hearts, they were simply not ready to make the changes necessary. Their conditions changed drastically and they had to learn to depend on God in extraordinary circumstances. They had to become a people who would ultimately emerge with a new identity and new set of community rules. The book of Exodus sets out these rules and establishes a basis in which these sojourners become a covenant people.

God’s people are meant to commune in unity with Him at centre point. The combined skills of the people will help them survive in their new land.

The Exodus 2 concept is based upon teaching the body lost skills that our grandparents and some of us in an older generation once used in our daily family lives. Unfortunately, many people have lost such skills or have stopped practicing them. Learning fundamental survival skills helps bring us back to basics and discover the strengths we all have within.

All of us have practical experiences that we can share and teach to one another other. Survival is not age dependent in draws upon the attitude of mind and the will to succeed. The Exodus 2 training camp, wants you be able to prepare for the times when the things we so much depend upon today, are suddenly no longer available to us.

Everyday, we are told that we are in an energy crisis. The cost of living is soaring out of control. Open fires for instance, are simply not an option for the vast majority. There is no alternative to keeping warm without incurring huge bills. Modern homes are built to rely on electricity but we all know that in recent times we have been encouraged to restrict its use into our homes. In addition, dependence on those supplying food for our supermarket shelves have proven problematic as food supplies are in shortage. Climate change, is a natural phenomena and we are living in a time when the earth itself is going through change. The way we communicate and work from the technology we use demands enormous resources. These resources must continue to be supplied, and we are having to adapt so that they can keep running.

What have you done to prepare for all of this? Can you say that you could sufficiently survive when conditions demand a very different practical response.
