The men who wrote the New Testament were under no delusion that they were writing the words of the Creator. Although many people consider the letters scripture, the writers would probably not. 2 Timothy 3:16—17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.” As Paul writes this he is not referring to the gospels which were written afterward — he is referring to what we know as the Old Testament.
