A continual dripping on a rainy day and a quarrelsome wife are alike; to restrain her is to restrain the wind or to grasp oil in one's right hand.
Proverbs 27:15-16 ESV

It's better not to put yourself into a position in which you need to restrain the wind or hold oil in your hand, but if you must, it will require tools and ingenuity. The same is true for a quarrelsome wife. You will need to find loving ways to redirect and contain her quarrelsome nature. If you rely on physical discipline, you are unlikely to be able to trust her. This principle is true in any relationship with a difficult person.
