We haven't been able to post anything lately because we've been trying to get out of Israel. We were eating breakfast in our Jerusalem apartment around 08:30 on Shemini Atzeret when the first air raid siren sounded. The next siren sounded as we were walking to the Western Wall. We could see the contrails of the Iron Dome interceptors and hear the explosions, but none of the debris hit Jerusalem.
Most airlines canceled flights that Saturday. Air France canceled our Sunday flight on Saturday night. Air Canada canceled our Tuesday flight on Monday. Turkish Air canceled our Thursday flight on Tuesday.
Tuesday night, I pounced on two Etihad tickets for Wednesday and headed to Ben Gurion in the morning. Our flight left at 15:00; when we landed in Abu Dhabi 3 hours later, we heard that there had been an air raid at Ben Gurion shortly after our flight had departed. A British Air flight to evacuate UK citizens was off the coast of Israel when the air raid occurred, but the pilot aborted and headed back to Britain.
We flew from Abu Dabhi to Washington on Thursday; the whole trip took 33 hours, but we were home. Many Americans are still stuck, 30 are confirmed dead, and Hamas may have a dozen captives. When a nation turns away from God, curses and disasters follow, and this is just the beginning.
