In the last comic I mentioned the Noahide Laws. I thought I would cover it several comics later, but I think it fits better here. The previous comic went into the fairness of having two different standards for two different groups of people. So, I don’t want to repeat that.

Instead, let’s look at the validity of the claim of these Noahide Laws. According to tradition, these laws were given to Noah and his sons during the making of the covenant with Noah. As all people are Noah’s descendants, these laws apply to everyone.

However, when we read the Genesis account and compare the 7 laws, only 2 are present. According to the Talmud, 4 others are taken from other passages in Genesis, and the last (the courts) was added.

Why wouldn’t everything be together like it is for the Torah? If all mankind was to follow this, wouldn’t it be laid out just as plainly?

I feel some look at these 7, which sound a lot like the 10 Commandments, and say “oh yeah, these are good things. I’ll get behind it.” And not dig deeper.

God is not a God of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). He does state plainly when it comes to laws: There is one Law (Exodus 12:49). This applies to those born Israelites and those who join with them in following God. (Romans 11, Ephesians 2)
