What if???

What if we gave Rev. 18 to read by a person who has no knowledge of the Bible and ask them to tell us the story?

Would they take it as a literal or figurative story?

The city sells linen, precious metals, spices, wine, food stuffs, animals and slaves. It is located by the sea with a busy harbour as many merchants get rich from it.

Does this sound like Washington, Moscow, Rome, Jerusalem, London, Honk Kong, Singapore, maybe New York city before its financial downfalls started? Thinking about it, NY city maybe as it has the World Trade Center and the UN headquarters in it???

Will harps, flutes and minstrels make a comeback for the general population to hear it in the city?

If it isn't literal then how far do we go looking at it figuratively? Do we then ignore the boats and think of it as planes? Are the musical instruments now drums and guitars? Maybe it isn't flour that gets sold, but Chow-Mein and the pearls are instead circuit boards?

What if what is written is actually what it means in this instance?

And, why give sooooo much detail about what the city sells?

What are your thoughts on this?
