Stealing food prolongs one man's life and probably doesn't hurt the victim very much. It usually doesn't say much about how the thief feels about the victim. Stealing a wife, on the other hand, is like stealing a man's entire life for momentary pleasure. It shows utter contempt for the victim.

I just can't recall whether the same counts when a person kills an animal and eats it. Do you maybe have a recollection if that then falls under punishable theft?
Stealing a wife or holding a person for randsom falls under the same punishment as far as I understand it, but please correct me if I am wrong.
