Most people today don’t consider the importance of a door or a gate. Genesis 43:19, “ So the brothers went to the servant in charge of Joseph’s house. They spoke to him at the door of the house.” The door of a home or the gate to a city was very important in past centuries because it separated the known from the unknown. Today the way we travel cities don’t usually have gates, instead they have signs posted to let travelers know where the boundaries of the city begins. Some places in the world continue to severely restrict travelers from entering a city freely, they remain gated and guarded. Most homes have doors which are securely locked when the occupants go to bed. These gates and doors distinguish the difference between what we think of as a safe place and the possible danger of what is on the other side.
