Last Shabbat, we had a conversation about the different calendars that some groups follow. In my neck of the words, everyone, whether they are part of a congregation, or independent, follow the Jewish calendar.

We all agreed that reseaching the different calendars and trying to figure which ones to follow on our own is very confusing. So it is easier to just default to the Jewish calendar that most people follow.

We are lookng forward to celebrating the Fall Feast days this year 2024 in October.

Do you know the history of the jewish calendar? Do you know how far it strays from scripture? I would say studying the sun, moon and stars for the appointed times is not confusing for the individual who can set aside tradition to learn. What is difficult is trying to justify other calendars with scriptute. We are told our calendar early on, starting with the first day beginning in darkness and ending in light. We are next told to look to the heavens for our set apart times. Then we are told of the sabbath. Exodus tells us the moonth when virgo (holding barley) begins to rise, we should be counting our first moonth. Not looking for plants, until we see the sign to harvest (spica rising with or before the moon), then to take a sheaf to offer at the temple. The ancient story of redemption began with virgo. It is preserved in the names of the stars in various languages. Read "witness of the stars". Its thrilling to learn of Yah's calendar in the sky, rather than looking to manipulatable earthly things.
