Notice the parallels between the betrothal of Isaac and Rebekah (Genesis 24) and the anointing of King Saul (1 Samuel 10-11). In both stories, girls draw water from a well, and God reveals an anointed one. Rebekah completes Isaac as a patriarch, while Saul unites Israel as a nation.

There are also parallels between the betrothal of Rebekah and the prophecy of Samson's birth (Judges 13). In both stories, a woman at a well is chosen and greeted by a messenger. In both stories the woman tells the man of the house who then speaks to the messenger. Eliezer refused to eat at Bethuel's house and the Angel refused to eat at Samson's father's house.
