READINGS FOR OMER-DAY 03

Behold, I am about to fulfill the affirmative precept of the counting of the Omer, as it is written in the Torah, “And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the Shabbath, from the day that ye brought the Omer of the wave-offering, seven complete weeks they shall be; until the morrow of the seventh Shabbath shall ye number fifty days.” Blessed art Thou YHWH, our Elohym, King of the universe, who hast set us apart by Thy commandments and hast given us command concerning the counting of the Omer.

This is the third day, making no weeks and three days of the Omer.

May the All Merciful restore the service of the Temple to its place. May it be Thy will, YHWH our Elohym and Elohym of our fathers, that the Temple be speedily rebuilt in our days, and grant our portion in Thy Torah. And there we will serve Thee with awe, as in the days of old and as in ancient years.

May Elohym be favorable unto us and bless us. That Thy way may be known upon the earth, Thy salvation among all nations. Let the peoples give thanks unto Thee, Elohym; let all the peoples give thanks unto Thee. Let the nations rejoice and exult: for Thou wilt judge the peoples with equity and lead the nations upon the earth. Let the peoples give thanks unto Thee, Elohym; let all the peoples give thanks unto Thee. The earth hath yielded her increase: Elohym, even our Elohym, shall bless us. Elohym shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.

O YHWH my Elohim, in You I have taken refuge; Save me from all my pursuers; And deliver me, Lest they tear at my throat like a lion, Rending in pieces, with no one to deliver.

O YHWH my Elohim, if I have done this: If there is unrighteousness in my hands, If I have done evil to him who was at peace with me, Or have plundered my enemy without cause, Let the enemy pursue me and overtake my being, And trample my life to the ground, And lay my esteem in the dust. Selah.

Arise, O YHWH, in Your displeasure; Lift Yourself up against the rage of my adversaries, And awake for me! You shall command judgment! And let the congregation of the peoples gather about You; And over them return on high.

YHWH judges the peoples; Judge me, O YHWH, according to my righteousness, And according to my integrity within me. Please let the evil of the wrong be ended, And establish the righteous; For the righteous Elohim is a trier of hearts and kidneys.

My shield is upon Elohim, Who saves the upright in heart.

Elohim is a righteous judge. And Ěl is enraged every day, If one does not repent! He sharpens His sword, He bends His bow and makes it ready, And He has prepared for Himself instruments of death, He makes His arrows hot for pursuers.

See, he who is bound with wickedness, And has conceived trouble and brought forth falsehood, He has made a pit and dug it out, And falls into the ditch he made! His trouble turns back upon his own head, And his wrongdoing comes down on the top of his head.

I give thanks to YHWH according to His righteousness, And praise the Name of YHWH Most High.

O YHWH, our Master, how excellent is Your Name in all the earth, You who set Your splendor above the heavens!

Out of the mouth of babes and infants You have founded strength, Because of Your adversaries, To put an end to enemy and avenger.

For I see Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have established.

What is man that You remember him? And the son of man that You visit him?

Yet You have made him a little less than Elohim, And have crowned him with esteem and splendor.

You made him rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all under his feet, All sheep and oxen, And also the beasts of the field, The birds of the heavens, And the fish of the sea, Passing through the paths of the seas.

O YHWH, our Master, How excellent is Your Name in all the earth!

My son, if you accept my words, And treasure up my commands with you, So that you make your ear attend to wisdom, Incline your heart to understanding; For if you cry for discernment, Lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as hidden treasures, Then you would understand the fear of YHWH, And find the knowledge of Elohim.

For YHWH gives wisdom; Out of His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

And He treasures up stability for the straight, A shield to those walking blamelessly, To watch over the paths of judgment, And the way of His merciful ones He guards.

Then you would understand righteousness And judgment, and straightness – Every excellent path.

For wisdom would enter your heart, And knowledge be pleasant to your being, Discretion would guard you; Understanding would watch over you, To deliver you from the evil way, From the man who speaks perversities, Those who leave the paths of straightness To walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice to do evil; They delight in the perversities of evil; Whose paths are crooked, And they are perverted in their ways; To deliver you from the strange woman, From the foreigner who flatters with her words, Who forsakes the companion of her youth, And has forgotten the covenant of her Elohim.

For her house has sunk down to death, And her paths to the dead; None going in to her does return, Nor do they reach the paths of life – So walk in the way of excellence, And guard the paths of righteousness.

For the straight shall dwell in the earth, And the perfect be left in it; But the wrong shall be cut off from the earth, And the treacherous ones plucked out of it.

READINGS: AVOTH 1:6-7

Y’hoshua ben P’rachyah and Nittay, the Ar’beliy received the tradition from the preceding. Y’hoshua ben P’rachyah said, provide thyself a teacher; get thee a companion; and judge all men charitably.

Nittay the Ar’beliy said, keep thee far from a bad neighbor; associate not with the wicked; and abandon not the belief in retribution.
