Isaiah 19:4, “And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.” (KJV) One mistranslated word in this verse is another clue or another witness to understanding why there is confusion about the English translation used for both God and gods in the Bible. The cruel lord in this verse is plural in the original Hebrew and an indicator that the Hebrew grammar uses what is known as the “royal we” to show respect for the position. There are many examples of this in the Old Testament.
