Greet those workers in the Lord, Tryphaena and Tryphosa. Greet the beloved Persis, who has worked hard in the Lord.
Romans 16:12 ESV

Tryphaena and Tryphosa were probably Jewish women, possibly even sisters based on their being grouped together and to the similarity of their names. Paul describes them in the same way he described Mary in v6 and Persis in the next sentence: laborers. While Mary specifically labored on behalf of the Roman assemblies, Paul doesn’t say for whom these women labored except “in the Lord”. They likely labored alongside the other Jewish exiles from Rome in Ephesus, Corinth, or some other Greek city before returning to Rome.
