actually, while i agree it's not a good idea to ask ai in any way to 'interpret' what the text is saying, letting it loose on factual stuff is just letting it do the grindwork for you.
like show me everywhere in the text where the following 'summat' also occurs.
or, to what this article is tackling, do an analysis on this piece of physical evidence (those scrolls).
and yes, it's only as good as it was 'trained', but the boffins, if they've done their job will have brought it up to the current highest level of understanding on that subject.
and now it can work with its ace in the hole, it doesn't get tired or overlook a piece of info, it's a machine, mindless, and it does it superfast, before we get distracted by another butterfly...
regardless, it is showing an anomaly in the handwritings, and is coming to a conclusion based on what's been fed into it.
what i mean is otherwise some geek hidden in a cave on some island would have spent his whole life studying this, and revealed his labour with his dying breathe.
and then we wouldn't question his conclusion, at least in the same way we are questioning ai, something like that.
(and yet, i myself still don't use it...)

The troubling thing is what IS running AI since machines are subject to EM which happens to be how most spirits travel...If such things are not yet running AI the question is more a matter of when...

I believe this is a good use for AI as it can look for patterns which the human mind will just overlook.

I can understand why they say "It is unknown who finished the Book of Daniel, but it would appear that the unknown author associated with these fragments did so in the early 160s B.C.E., according to the results from Enoch." as I have seen articles talking of Persian loan words which didn't exist in 650BC being used in the newest parts of the book. An AI would be able to pick that up very easily when it compares the data with other sources.

BUT like you said, it all depends on the data it has been trained on. If the initial dating of the other sources are incorrect then this dating will also be incorrect. A catch-22... 😖

The same thing happens in dating fossils. Rocks are dated according to the plant matter found in it and at the same time the plant matter is dated according to the rock it is found in. 🤔
