OLD TESTAMENT BIBLE VERSES – PART 1

EXODUS 6:9
Moses told the people what Adonai had said, but they wouldn't listen anymore. They had become too discouraged by the increasing burden of their slavery.

NUMBERS 13:30
But Caleb tried to encourage the people as they stood before Moses. "Let's go at once to take the land," he said. "We can certainly conquer it!"

NUMBERS 32:7 & 9
"Are you trying to discourage the rest of the people of Israel from going across to the land Adonai has given them? After they went up to the valley of Eshcol and scouted the land, they discouraged the people of Israel from entering the land Adonai was giving them.

DEUTERONOMY 1:21 & 38
Look! He has placed it in front of you. Go and occupy it as Adonai, the YHVH of your ancestors, has promised you. Don't be afraid! Don't be discouraged!' Instead, your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will lead the people into the land. Encourage him as he prepares to enter it.

DEUTERONOMY 3:28
But commission Joshua and encourage him, for he will lead the people across the Jordan. He will give them the land you now see before you.'

DEUTERONOMY 13:5
The false prophets or dreamers who try to lead you astray must be put to death, for they encourage rebellion against Adonai your YHVH, who brought you out of slavery in the land of Egypt. Since they try to keep you from following Adonai your YHVH, you must execute them to remove the evil from among you.

DEUTERONOMY 31:6, 7, 8 & 23
Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid of them! Adonai your YHVH will go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor forsake you." Then Moses called for Joshua, and as all Israel watched he said to him, "Be strong and courageous! For you will lead these people into the land that Adonai swore to give their ancestors. You are the one who will deliver it to them as their inheritance. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for Adonai is the one who goes before you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor forsake you." Then Adonai commissioned Joshua son of Nun with these words: "Be strong and courageous! You must bring the people of Israel into the land I swore to give them. I will be with you."

JOSHUA 1:6, 7, 9 & 18
"Be strong and courageous, for you will lead my people to possess all the land I swore to give their ancestors. Be strong and very courageous. Obey all the laws Moses gave you. Do not turn away from them, and you will be successful in everything you do. I command you-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For Adonai your YHVH is with you wherever you go." Anyone who rebels against your word and does not obey your every command will be put to death. So be strong and courageous!"

JOSHUA 2:11
No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For Adonai your YHVH is the supreme YHVH of the heavens above and the earth below.

JOSHUA 7:5
chased the Israelites from the city gate as far as the quarries, and they killed about thirty-six who were retreating down the slope. The Israelites were paralysed with fear at this turn of events, and their courage melted away.

JOSHUA 8:1
Then Adonai said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid or discouraged. Take the entire army and attack Ai, for I have given to you the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land.

JOSHUA 10:25
"Don't ever be afraid or discouraged," Joshua told his men. "Be strong and courageous, for Adonai is going to do this to all of your enemies."

JOSHUA 14:8
but my brothers who went with me frightened the people and discouraged them from entering the Promised Land. For my part, I followed Adonai my YHVH completely.

JUDGES 5:21
The Kishon River swept them away- that ancient river, the Kishon. March on, my soul, with courage!

Listen to what the Midianites are saying, and you will be greatly encouraged. Then you will be eager to attack." So Gideon took Purah and went down to the outposts of the enemy camp.

But the Israelites took courage and assembled at the same place they had fought the previous day.

1 SAMUEL 4:20
She died in childbirth, but before she passed away the midwives tried to encourage her. "Don't be afraid," they said. "You have a baby boy!" But she did not answer or respond in any way.

"Why have you and David conspired against me?" Saul demanded. "Why did you give him food and a sword? Why have you inquired of YHVH for him? Why did you encourage him to revolt against me and to come here and attack me?"

Jonathan went to find David and encouraged him to stay strong in his faith in YHVH.

2 SAMEL 4:1
When Ishbosheth heard about Abner's death at Hebron, he lost all courage, and his people were paralysed with fear.

2 SAMUEL 10:12
Be courageous! Let us fight bravely to save our people and the cities of our YHVH. May Adonai's will be done."

2 SAMUEL 11:25
"Well, tell Joab not to be discouraged," David said. "The sword kills one as well as another! Fight harder next time, and conquer the city!"

2 SAMUEL 13:28
Absalom told his men, "Wait until Amnon gets drunk; then at my signal, kill him! Don't be afraid. I'm the one who has given the command. Take courage and do it!"

2 SAMUEL 17:2 & 10
I will catch up to him while he is weary and discouraged. He and his troops will panic, and everyone will run away. Then I will kill only the king, then even the bravest of them, though they have the heart of a lion, will be paralysed with fear. For all Israel knows what a mighty man your father is and how courageous his warriors are.

For if you carefully obey the laws and regulations that Adonai gave to Israel through Moses, you will be successful. Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or lose heart!

1 CHRONICLES 28:20
Then David continued, "Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don't be afraid or discouraged by the size of the task, for Adonai YHVH, my YHVH is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of Adonai is finished correctly.

2 CHRONICLES 13:3
Judah, led by King Abijah, fielded 400,000 seasoned warriors, while Jeroboam mustered 800,000 courageous men from Israel.

2 CHRONICLES 14:8
King Asa had an army of 300,000 warriors from the tribe of Judah, armed with large shields and spears. He also had an army of 280,000 warriors from the tribe of Benjamin, armed with small shields and bows. Both armies were composed of courageous fighting men.

And now, you men of Judah be strong and courageous, for your work will be rewarded." When Asa heard this message from Azariah the prophet, he took courage and removed all the idols in the land of Judah and Benjamin and in the towns he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. And he repaired the altar of Adonai, which stood in front of the foyer of Adonai's Temple.

2 CHRONICLES 19:11
"Amariah the high priest will have final say in all cases concerning Adonai. Zebadiah son of Ishmael, a leader from the tribe of Judah, will have final say in all civil cases. The Levites will assist you in making sure that justice is served. Take courage as you fulfil your duties, and may Adonai be with those who do what is right."

2 CHRONICLES 20:15 & 17
He said, "Listen, King Jehoshaphat! Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! This is what Adonai says: Do not be afraid! Don't be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but YHVH's. But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch Adonai's victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out there tomorrow, for Adonai is with you!"

2 CHRONICLES 22:3
Ahaziah also followed the evil example of King Ahab's family, for his mother encouraged him in doing wrong.

2 CHRONICLES 23:1
In the seventh year of Athaliah's reign, Jehoiada the priest decided to act. He got up his courage and made a pact with five army commanders: Azariah son of Jeroham, Ishmael son of Jehohanan, Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zicri.

2 CHRONICLES 25:11
Then Amaziah summoned his courage and led his army to the Valley of Salt, where they killed ten thousand Edomite troops from Seir.

2 CHRONICLES 28:19
Adonai was humbling Judah because of King Ahaz of Judah, for he had encouraged his people to sin and had been utterly unfaithful to Adonai.

2 CHRONICLES 30:22
Hezekiah encouraged the Levites for the skill they displayed as they served Adonai. So for seven days the celebration continued. Peace offerings were sacrificed, and the people confessed their sins to Adonai, the YHVH of their ancestors.

2 CHRONICLES 32:6, 7 & 8
He appointed military officers over the people and asked them to assemble before him in the square at the city gate. Then Hezekiah encouraged them with this address: "Be strong and courageous! Don't be afraid of the king of Assyria or his mighty army, for there is a power far greater on our side! He may have a great army, but they are just men. We have Adonai our YHVH to help us and to fight our battles for us!" These words greatly encouraged the people.

2 CHRONICLES 33:16
Then he restored the altar of Adonai and sacrificed peace offerings and thanksgiving offerings on it. He also encouraged the people of Judah to worship Adonai, the YHVH of Israel.

2 CHRONICLES 35:2
Josiah also assigned the priests to their duties and encouraged them in their work at the Temple of Adonai.
