No it’s not commanded, and yes it’s a man-made tradition. But it’s not pagan. Don’t confuse “man-made” with pagan. Celebrate or don’t. It’s your call. But Would You Kindly refrain from telling people it’s pagan like Christmas & Easter. It’s not. Be grateful or be quiet.
