What's in a name? In our culture, names are just labels, completely divorced from their original meanings, when they're not just made-up noises. But that's not how the ancient Hebrews thought of names. More importantly, it's not God's way. The name is the man. Jacob may have thought of himself as a usurper, but God saw him as His own representative on earth. We must all discover who we are in God's Kingdom. We wrestle all our lives to learn our own names. When the wrestler calls Jacob "Israel", Jacob finally sees himself for who he really is in God's plan. Only when we accept ourselves for who God knows us to be can we achieve all we're meant to. When we fight with God and His plan, we fight against ourselves.
