Bilhah and Zilpah are called Jacob's wives in Genesis 37:2. But...but... weren't they just concubines? That depends on what you mean by "just". In the ancient Hebrew culture of the Bible, a concubine was a wife with the added obligations of servitude. She wasn't a prostitute, temporary wife, or "side thing". Her husband had to provide for her just like he did for a free wife and he couldn't kick her out when he was tired of her.
