Can you read music. This is to get an idea of how many on here are knowledgeable.

I can read just shape notes

I can read music notes round and shape notes

I have had voice training and music schooling

I play by ear and chord charts. As a guitar player that has served me pretty well through the years. Though I can sight read a melody line if you give me a minute! ?

i say i cant read music because its been years since ive done so. I was in choir and plays violin in school.

My dog has fleas. DOES ANYONE STILL DO THAT! The person who knows how to read music has nothing over those who sing and have joy doing so and can't read a note.

I took violin lessons from 13yo-15yo but played beyond that....in the process I learned how to read music. I had honestly never heard of shape notes. Heh
