“Behold, the days are coming, declares YHVH, when I will punish all those who are circumcised merely in the flesh— Egypt, Judah, Edom, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and all who dwell in the desert who cut the corners of their hair, for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.”
Jeremiah 9:25-26
Those who are circumcised in the flesh only might as well be uncircumcised. They are no better than pagans in God's eyes. What he really wants is a circumcised heart.

The last third of Exodus is arranged chiastically, with the Tabernacle and Sabbath on the outside and the golden calf on the inside. Almost as if God wanted to quarantine the WRONG way to worship him by walling it off between two accounts of the RIGHT way.
I'll be hosting The Chiasm Course at Common Sense Bible Study to teach how to find, diagram, and understand biblical chiasms.
