A thanksgiving/peace offering was to be a major event, a community/family celebration complete with a BBQ. It was an opportunity to publicly praise God for his protection, guidance, or provision.
There are three kinds of peace offerings in Torah:
1) Vow offering
2) Thanksgiving
3) Freewill
Four if you include the Passover.

Our heart is emotional, it reacts but doesn’t think. Our mind is reason, it thinks but is incapable of emotion. Deuteronomy 6:5, “ And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” This verse tells us that we should love with emotion, think and understand and it also includes the physical. We act on the emotion with reason, thought and understanding.
