The carrying poles for the Ark of the Covenant were mounted on the narrow ends of the Ark and may have protruded through the inner curtain of the Tabernacle like God's presence into our world. We can't see him face-to-face, but we can see the Son, and like the Cherubim, they are two witnesses that lead to the presence of the Father. The poles were removable, but God said never to remove them. Even with something so simple, he usually leaves us a way to disobey him if we choose to.

Something modern believers want to change is the way we understand the Bible. Unless we do our best to understand it the way the people it was written to would have, we lose the meaning of the instructions. 2 Samuel 7:28, “And now, O Lord GOD, You are God! Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant.”
