Genesis 31; 27, “Why did you run away secretly and deceive me, without even telling me? I would have sent you away with joy and singing, with tambourines and harps” The first time the word translated as “joy” is written in the Bible, it is found where Laban and Jacob are arguing. What possible lesson is found by using this word in this passage for the first time? There are actually many lessons, the article of first mention is considered the primary definition for the word. For Laban to suggest that he would have sent Jacob away joyful is the opposite of Laban’s character, using this word here may suggest that the opposite of a greedy and conniving spirit is a joyous or happy spirit.
