I am new to Torah and one thing I am picking up from many #torahobservant people is the use of the word "Yah". I understand what it means and who it refers to. My question is if there is Biblical or historical use of the word or is it something that is more recent? Just a curiosity I have had.

Shalom, yes to say is correct, I have attached a verse of the Psalms 115vs18 in Hebrew circled in pencil is name Yah. I hope that answers your curiosity or doubt and Shalom.

The closest to the name Yah or use of Yah in the KJV, is Psalms 68:4.

So I got on a "what fish are clean" tangent and found out that halibut are said to have tiny scales, but that they are invisible to the naked eye. Does that count??? Honest question here. #fish #kosher #clean #cooking

A very good point was made to me a while ago when discussing this topic. If we put ourselves in proper context of when this Mitzvah was given we have to understand that there was no such thing as microscopes and the like at that time. Therefore it is probably best to believe that YAH was telling us if we catch a fish and can't see the scales with our naked eye that it would be unclean for us.

Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says YHWH Tsevaot, and I will not accept an offering from your hand.
Malachi 1:10

From God's perspective, it was better for the Temple and the Altar to be destroyed than to allow them to continue being used by a corrupt priesthood to offer corrupt sacrifices.
