How do we make sense of the Torah’s polygamy regulations in light of the Bible’s overall condemnation of this practice? https://davidwilber.com/articl....es/understanding-the

We understand that there is no condemning of polygyny.

I've wanted to get your response to this argument.

The penalty for breaking Lev 18:18 is to be executed or removed from Israel (see verse 29). This would mean that there are no polygamous men within Israel under Moses. Yet Moses still wrote about how to deal with children of multiple wives.

The counter argument based off the "price of a harlot" does not seem to be a fair one even though harlotry is also worthy of death, because the price paid for the harlot (e.g. a kid of the flock) would still be around even after the harlot was killed. That animal could not be brought to the tabernacle, so the existence of this statute in not negated because harlots are put to death.

On the other hand, those who break Lev 18:18 would have been purged from Israel under Moses, meaning that the "who can I make the heir" question in Deuteronomy 21:15-17 could never be encountered. It seems like taking Lev 18:18 to be a prohibition of polygamy invalidates other parts of the law.

(Plus Moses should have executed or expelled Caleb from Israel as he had multiple concubines, but he did not. Makes it seem like Moses interpreted this verse differently than you do.)

What are your thoughts?

I gotta take a moment to celebrate and commemorate this day. This is the first time I've ever read my bible for 365 days in a row. I've gotten close before, but life has always somehow got in the way a day or two.

But the best thing about 2020 is that it slowed my life down, and made me focus a lot more of my heart and energy towards God's word in a way that I haven't felt since I first became a believer many years ago.

Aah, well done. :dizzy:

That is a BIG step, one I sadly haven't been able to achieve. I try to get some spiritual food each day, but many a day it is from videos.

As you say, there is always something that gets in the way.

Afterburn: also known in the world of fitness as the “afterburn effect”, simply put; The more intense the exercise, the more oxygen your body consumes afterward.
The same could be true as you build up your spiritual self. After an intense teaching session, you need answers as more thoughts and questions consume you in your spiritual growth.
Rabbi Steve Berkson, director of MTOI, provides an opportunity for the Afterburn to take place by additional thoughts and insight about what he just taught as well as answering questions from the local congregation and those watching the live stream.

I recommend Montessori as well. I worked as a Montessori teach, taught my children with this method. Can't speak highly enough about it. As for a third grader and history, I know that many curriculums secular and christian teach basic history for the united states and world. Our family taught the children with out those history books up until junior high age. We covered what life was like in biblical times. What children and parents roles/responsibility were. We covered this thru the ages of time. Romans, Greeks, Indigenous people in the United states, early settlers etc. Their grasp for understanding the times helped when we moved into history books at the middle and high school age. We were very hands on with activities that the people would do during the time period we were studying. Dressing up in clothing, playing games, cooking meals. Be creative and engage them. This will build an interest and desire to study history.

God expresses His will to us through His Word. Do we truly believe that? Because to say, "This commandment is irrelevant," is to say, "God's will for my life in this area isn't important to me." God is the one who makes the rules, not us. And if we desire to follow Him, that includes following His rules. As R.C. Sproul once put it, "When there's something in the Word of God that I don't like, the problem is not with the Word of God, it's with me."
