Beware the ides of March… Of course most people know that Julius Caesar was murdered on March 15 but there are other pagan traditions that are associated with this date as well. For the Romans this is the day when Jupiter would lead the Ides’ sheep to Via Sarca where it would be sacrificed. The feast of Anna Perenna a goddess of the year was celebrated on this date as well. For believers, there is no need to fear a date on a calendar, repeated in theBible are the encouraging words, “fear not!” We should be careful and watchful and certainly not foolish, but there is no need to be afraid. We have the promise of protection from our Creator.
