Good morning Torah keepers! What does preparation day look like for you?

Well usually my kids clean while I prep our food!

Typically I'll wrap up whatever projects I have going on throughout the week, then tidy up the house so it is nice during Shabbat and then I will make sure we have some prepared meals &/or quick and easy foods to enjoy during the Sabbath. I don't have any kids yet, it's just me and my husband right now, so its not too bad.

My husband and I do host a monthly fellowship for local brethren to come and share a meal together and just be together as family, and those preparation days are much more busy as I will try to prepare enough food to feed the whole group and will also do a deeper cleaning of the house. So it does depend on what our Sabbath looks like that depends on how my preparation looks.

I work from home so I get my hours in, go shopping, prepare and cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for Saturday. I do all the dishes and clean up.

exodus 16 gives us a clue in how to observe the sabbath,

So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.’ ”

24So they saved it until morning, as Moses commanded, and it did not stink or get maggots in it. 25“Eat it today,” Moses said, “because today is a sabbath to the Lord. You will not find any of it on the ground today. 26Six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any.

it would seem that work must be undertaken the day before in preparation for the Sabbath. Work is considered to be what you do for a living..'normal work'. however, the sabbath is men at to be a complete day of rest for all. this may allude to a day of not working. so, do enough for Shabbat; get all your work done for sabbath the day before, that would include, house work and getting meals ready.here's a couple more passages:Exodus 31:15
Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

Exodus 35:3
Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day............The sabbath is a Holy day, not just another day of the week. It is as important as the feast days which we are also common aded to observe. We refrain from work to separate the sabbath form the other days. IYHVH blesses the following days when we observe this command. It is holy because it is a shadow image of the sabbath to come, the eternal rest of the Lord. In addition we refrain from doing what pleases us by remaining focused on the Lord. Isaiah 58 is a great passage on fasting and the sabbaths :13
If you turn your foot from breaking the Sabbath,
from doing as you please on My holy day,
if you call the Sabbath a delight,
and the LORD’s holy day honorable,
if you honor it by not going your own way
or seeking your own pleasure or speaking idle words,
14then you will delight yourself in the LORD,
and I will make you ride on the heights of the land
and feed you with the heritage of your father Jacob.”

Personally, I make sure that all my daily work is done by Friday eve, before shabbat. I spend time writing and preparing the torah study and teaching for my fellowship for Saturday shabbat meeting. I take breaks also to spend time with family. So during the week, I do my normal daily work and by Shabbat meeting time, I've actually spent time in study and preparation. I have travelled for meetings on shabbat but I don't observe the usual prohibitions, that in the most part, in my book, are just simply non-sensical, for example: turning on switches and driving.
