A few weeks ago, after home worship, we watched a version of The Pilgrim's Progress, on Youtube. It turned out to be some musical version but everybody was pretty into it. Some things in it seemed like red flags for me but it was kind of vague and I wasn't sure so I didn't bring them up.
Today, however, the kids and I watched the animated version. It was disheartening to see how incredibly anti-Torah it truly was. After stopping the movie to discuss it's misleadings, the kids asked if we could continue watching, despite knowing it's truth. From then, I had to make multiple references to clarify it's misteaching and how it's leading people away from obedience. In the end, the kids decided they liked the musical version better than the animated version. The animated version is rather dark and crude while the musical version kept a very spirit-filled approach and was considerably more vague around the topic of Torah and didn't depict the main character as being quite so easily swayed, as the animated version did.
If you've yet to see The Pilgrims Progress and wish to share it with your family, I highly recommend watching it before you share it with your kids so that you're aware of the poor translation and rather startling scenes. There were a few scenes in the animated which had my 5 and 6 year old's covering their eyes.
