This is what I picture when I think of how the Father looks at us when we refuse to obey His Commands. How childish do we look to Him, to think we have everything figured out and that we don't need to do what He tells us to do.
In this new series, I want to take a look at different things I went through and common questions I had or others had when we started following Torah as part of our walk with Jesus. The Sabbath is what started it all for me and several other people I know. For me, I had grown up with the thought that Sunday was the Sabbath. Everything closed down in small towns when it was Sunday. We went to church on Sunday. There were laws in place to not let people buy alcohol on Sundays. There was a lot around that day.
We later ran into a teaching, when looking into another Biblical question, that gave a challenge. The person said that the Sabbath never changed. It was still Friday night to Saturday night, as it was in Biblical times. They said that the only thing the Bible says about the Sabbath is to rest. Nothing else about it. You don't have to go to church, you just have to rest.
At the time, we had young children and were going 24/7. We had a full schedule of appointments and places to be. This didn't change just because it was the weekend. When we heard that God commanded a rest day from Creation and read about it ourselves, we thought it was a great idea. We scheduled it out. We said in a month, we would be able to take this rest day. We were going to try and get everything we could done so that we could just take a day and rest. And we did. That day, we played games with the kids. Read our Bibles. Just laid around the house. IT...WAS...AWESOME! After it was over, we knew we had to do it again. It reenergized us so much. It gave us a hunger for more in Scripture. So, we did do it again, and again and again. We haven't stopped doing the Sabbath since that first time. It has blessed our family so much and we have grown closer together as a family because of it.
My question to you reading this: If you don't keep the Sabbath as a day of rest, why not? In the first part of this series, we are going to dive deeper into the Sabbath and look at some of the reasons I had or have been given to me by others. We will break each of them down with Scripture and see how they hold up. Until next time.
