I hope and pray southern us states residents are doing ok in the heat. If you were caught off guard and youre in a blackout, take notes on everything you discover you are without and need for survival. One thing may be hanging wet sheets on the windows at night, then getting up before dawn to close all the windows. How are you cooking? Do you have shelf stable food and water stored up? If you are on city water only (no well for back up) did you fill totes with water right away? Do you have pool shock (no algae/fungus busters) to make bleach for treating all that water. I say pool shock because its shelf stable and cheaper in the long run. Do you have gravity filters to get rid of the chlorine taste? Do you have enough propane in your grill so you dont heat up the house cooking? Do you have back up refrigeration? Do you have a place you can put up solar panels or small wind turbines and a battery bank with inverters? If you have a portable gas generator, do you have enough fuel? Many of you were probably prepared for hurricane season. Many dont have to worry about that, but derechos and tornadoes may be the thing they prepare for. Heat, unfortunately, is something far more dangerous. If you live near a place that still has ac, like a hospital, go there for at least an hour per day to cool down. We are fortunate to have a very modern hospital with plenty of room for non patients escaping the heat. If you use fans, make sure you are not convection cooking yourself by refusing to open windows. Circulated heat cooks much faster than radiated heat. Fear of violence is why so many people in big cities die in their homes from the heat. Go for a swim! Take a sponge bath. Sit on the north side of your home in the shade. Animals need to be cooled too. Make sure they have water & shade. Dunk cats, dogs, pet rodents, birds in water to cool them off if they are showing signs of stress. Whatever cools you off cools them off. Water plants at their base after sunset so the water droplets dont magnify the sun. Im sure theres many more things you can do. Just please be careful! May Yah bless you all with cooler weather soon!
