Why do people say in THE beginning.....

Why do people say " in THE beginning..."? There is not a THE there. Ha means "the". It is absent in b'resheit, So its "in A beginning."

The prefix BE means in so it is actually there not as a root word but as a prefix.

Thats not how I was taught ancient hebrew..."b" means in. If theres no "ha", "a" singular article is presumed.
