Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

The day of wrath doesn't refer to any wrath of man because tangible wealth really can help in those cases. This is about the final judgment.

There's nothing wrong with desiring and accumulating wealth, but if that is your focus, then it's to the detriment of your reward in the world to come. Instead, focus on accumulating good deeds and building up God's name, and relegate the earning of gold to a side gig.
