On this date in history, 12/12/1985: Arrow Air Flight 1285, carrying U.S. Army personnel home from Egypt, crashes shortly after takeoff from Gander, Newfoundland, Canada, killing all 248 passengers and 8 crew members. The cause is disputed by Canadian Aviation Safety Board investigators. Some believe it was caused by ice on the wings, others that it was caused by an explosion. #otd #tdih

I might have to share this with my friend Marty the next time I go to Search and Rescue training with him (he is a veteran from the Marine Corps). He always loves taking to account the date in history, and he told me one time when we were going to training that the day we did it on was the same exact day the Marine Corps was created (it was originally a bunch of rednecks in a bar).
