Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem,
Matthew 2:1 ESV

It's tempting to believe that these wise men (magi) were disciples of Daniel, but there's no particular reason to believe this except that they came looking for the King of the Jews. Philo calls Balaam magus. Daniel calls his enemies magi. They probably came from Persia or Babylon, which would have been a journey of several months. Although Jews lived in those places, they were still a small minority.

Prophetically, the magi are like Moses and Aaron appearing before Pharaoh.
