The NT was written in Greek. They used Theos for God. They had no problem using the generic word for god in their day. The decision to use theos for god was made with the Tanakh was translated into Greek about 150 years before Yeshua.

English bibles don't substitute God for YHVH, they use LORD for that, following a similar pattern.

We who use the Names properly do so out of reverence and to be more correct. When we make us stuff about the Names that's clearly incorrect, it cheapens our efforts to spread the Gospel more accurately. Chag Sameach Shalom.

One cannot replace "elohim" with "god" because they are the same word in two languages. "God" was not an epithet of a particular being but a term for any god true or false, just as in Hebrew "elohim" is used for any god true or false. The justification is the same justification and accommodation for anyone to speak any language other than Hebrew.

There has been some interesting discussions on this Post which I let go to this point to see where it leads in a spirit of learning as it goes against the first principle in the T&Cs:

"Name of Our Creator and Messiah - You are free to use the name you think is the best, but please don’t ridicule those that use Jesus or any other name or pronunciation. We don’t want to distract anyone from the Torah issues and fellowship."
