To me it looks like there are some "duplicates" or verses/laws that talk about the same and then just expand on the previous one. 194 and 239 are examples.
194 - #Stolen property must be returned to the owner. (Leviticus 6:2-5)
239 - A #thief must make full #restitution or else be sold for his theft. (Exodus 22:1-4)
So, a single law could have said "Stolen property must be returned to the owner or else the thief must be sold for his theft." and then referenced the two verses.
Similarly:
202 - Help a #stranger who has a fallen animal. (Exodus 23:5)
203 - Help your #brother who has a fallen animal. (Deuteronomy 22:4)
The jury is still out whether a stranger is also my brother (see my post on https://social.ttn.place/post/....46781_who-is-your-ne but still; do we have to have two separate laws for this? Why not just "help an animal when it has fallen under its burden"? Someone must have put the load on the animal; stranger or brother... 🤷♂️
Why be so pedantic to reference chapter and verse for each possible implementation of a law? I can see that a lot of time was spent to make the list, but it almost feels like loopholes are being looked for. So, if it isn't in the list then we don't have to bother looking for a law to cover the scenario...
Well, we came across a scenario where Mark Price asked a question and there isn't a law and we had to think through it (https://social.ttn.place/post/....46636_what-is-your-o If we only looked at this list of #613 laws then we would have been lost.
