God blesses and curses whom he chooses for his own reasons, although never arbitrarily. He anoints one person for ministry and not another, because it suits his plan for the ultimate redemption of a faithful remnant of mankind, not because one person necessarily deserves it and the other doesn't. Our concepts of merit and worth are comparatively worthless and without merit.
