The question is always worth asking… and rarely ever asked…
What is your favorite translation teaching you?
Is it using English to give you a medieval or modern English view of ancient Hebrew things or is it using English to teaching the Hebrew mindset as best as can be?
The difference is night and day.
Most Bible versions will be adopting Anglo-Saxon culture, terminology, and perspective and teaching this anachronistically as if it were the norm of ancient Israel in the first century BC and before.
And that attitude is exactly backward. From these versions we will feel like we have an idea of how things were back then but most often we will only have a twisted rendition of our own society projected backwards onto theirs.
We have to be extremely careful which Bible versions we choose to use and which we shun completely. And equally so, we must take care to challenge our reading of our favored version so we don’t project ourselves and our culture into the text.
