If bad things keep happening to someone, it's often because he keeps doing and saying things to cause them. It's not always a great idea to intervene because you might interrupt a learning opportunity.

Conversely, if good things keep happening to someone, it's often because he is doing and saying things to cause them. Make friends with that person and learn from him.
