Does it seem that fewer people these days have a biblical world view? That’s what we conclude as we see our world reeling from one crisis to another, grasping for every solution – except those tried-and-true answers supplied by God’s Word.
We have a choice about how to respond to this crisis of faith. It’s the same choice our ancestors have had from time immemorial: we can ignore it, or we can equip ourselves to live as lights in the growing darkness, ready to help lead others into the light when they are ready to listen. That’s why Paul exhorted his readers to study the scriptures:
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV)
This is the Jewish apostle’s challenge to get serious about learning God’s ways by learning His word. The B’ney Yosef North America Bible Reading Plan is a tool designed for this purpose. Starting with the Torah and Haftarah one-year cycle, this plan for the Hebrew year 5785 (2024-2025) incorporates readings from the rest of the Tanakh (Old Testament) and Apostolic Writings (New Testament) into a daily plan that covers the entire Bible over the course of the year. The start date is the same as the Torah cycle: the day after Simchat Torah (Celebration of the Torah) at the end of Sukkot, which this year falls on October 25.
If you are in search of an organized approach to the Word of God, maybe this can help. Whatever you do, please do get into the Word so that it can get into you!
