In our zeal to come out of Babylon, sometimes folks go too far and end up in a "new and improved" Babylon. This often includes strange pronunciations for the Names of God and Yeshua and making these strange pronunciations mandatory.

The hard reality for us Messianics is that the NT writers had no problem transliterating Yeshua's Name into Greek and the people with Greek names in the NT kept those names. Using theos for Elohim was also just fine, an established practices from the translation of the LXX 200 years before Christ.

The Gospel did not go forth from Zion in Hebrew, it went in Greek. Sure, other languages were employed as necessary, but the world spoke Greek and YHVH used that to reach the people. While it is much better for us to use God's real Name and His Son's, we must not put burdens on people that clearly were not present in the first century.

Greek is NOT the original language. Even Josephus wrote in hebrew first and later had it translated into greek.

I used to attend a Messianic fellowship and "Yehovah" was the pronunciation we used (although there was no objection when people used other pronunciations).

In songs, it is easier to replace Adonai with Yehovah since they are both 3 syllable words.

deweese: Have you seen evidence the apostles taught them greek? In order to make converts, they had to speak the dame language. The apostles were sent out to the remnant of Israel, while Paul sought out mostly hellenists. Is there any evidence of paul writing in greek? Yes. When you read his letters in Aramaic, they make sense. When you read them in greek, he appears to be a mad man speaking in circles and never making a solid point.
