Bakak, translated as “pour out” or “empty” or “fail”, is not the same word used for when God pours out his spirit (nabah, yatzak, or shafak).

When God pours his spirit out on a people, that’s a good thing. God can never empty his spirit because he is infinite. It fills us up. This is a draining of spirit, probably representing hopelessness, a desperation to find answers from any source, no matter how weak.
