I've been using a forum recently. One of the topics that was posed on it was Torah Observance. There were those that were showing verses that the Bible states it is for anyone that is following God and that Jesus and the disciples taught it. And there were those that were against that. Most of those that were against, their argument came down to what I am portraying in the comic: different rules for different people.
They view the Law/Torah as something that is either only for the Jews (incorrectly labelling all of Israel as Jews) or that it was only for the time period before Jesus died on the Cross, but after it was given on Mt. Sinai. Both stances conclusion that Gentiles don't have to obey the Law.
However, there is no statement nor prophecy in the Bible that indicates any of these positions. In fact, we see:
- Jesus stating nothing will change from the Law
- Repeating the same thing YHWH states in the Law (if you love me, keep my commandments)
- Giving two great commandments, that come from the Law
- The disciples giving the new believers in Acts 15, commands from the Law
- Paul teaching from the Law on many occasions in his letters
- Peter warning that people use Paul's words in error to not follow the Law
- John saying to sin is to not follow the Law
- That the Law was being followed well before Mt. Sinai in several examples in Genesis
At the end of the day, just as the comic is pointing out, it doesn't make any sense that our Heavenly Father would have one set of rules one set of His children, but a different set for another set.
