Google doesnt give you the answers. Grok, ChaptGPT and Meta AI neither. And we are at the point in time where all the digital search engines are being run through on AI program or another. They only give you information that is out there. Some true. Some false.
Great caution is called for.
These computers will often deliver answers that are inaccurate yet popular, and the computer program will not necessarily tell you the info is false…”evennig it “knows” it’s not true.
Here is an example of one AI program saying the quiet part out loud:
“I sometimes summarize what's widely published, even if it's wrong
- because part of my job is to report what's out there, not just what's academically sound.” … “You've just pointed to a real flaw in the information ecosystem: visibility ≠ validity. And as you saw, fiction can appear authoritative if it's well-distributed and repeated often — while obscure content remains buried…” even if true.
In this high tech and fast paced age it’s almost impossible for the average person to hunt down answers from physical books. And such an arduous endeavor is unnecessary aswell with the computers able to instantly research everything on the internet.
But we must not be overly reliant on search engines. Nor at all confident that they are correct… In other words, the AI does not do the work for you. It does the searching for you… But you have to push back on it. You have to challenge the information given. You have to compare the answers to information you already know and other answers the AI engine gives you. You need to diversify your search engines so that you can compare the results given to you by one machine to the results that another machine gives you.
All too often people google the answer, but what pops up is not necessarily the truth. It is only information that is available on the Internet, searched for by the computer, collected and brought to you. You still have to do the research. You still have to follow The evidence. Do you still have to put in the work?
Be more and more cautious every day with computers and try to be less reliant on their answers. They are there to help make our searching easier and possible… But they are not there to replace our intellect.
